Professional Profile

This is a summary of my ambitions, my experience, specialties and influences. This is who I am and what I want out of my career.

Profile and experience summary

I have an extensive career in the IT field. I have worked for a real software company and it's just like in the movies--there are periods where you work 14-19 hour days, 7 days a week. I have been responsible for multi-million dollar projects. I wrote or rewrote all of the software at Trim-Masters Bardstown, where I was Assistant Manager of IT and the highest ranking IT personnel on-site. I was head programmer at two companies, Systems Manager at a medical office. I was a technical lead at the Kentucky Commonwealth Office of Technology (COT). I am currently IT Manager of the Kentucky Labor Cabinet and Acting CIO. I can effectively manage analysis, design, and software development because I have 23+ years of experience doing and managing them. I believe in and practice a customer-centric approach to management. IT is a service industry. I will do whatever is necessary in order to ensure the satisfaction of my users.

I am seeking an IT position where I can implement my ideas and put my experience in IT to use. I prefer working with software development/developers in some form. A positive, relaxed work environment is a must, and a career path that allows for growth would be optimal.

I was introduced to computers in 1984 and was instantly fascinated. I began working in the BASIC programming language during high school, and majored in Computer Science in 1987. I worked three jobs while attending college full-time and loved every minute of it. I graduated college and managed the IT operations of a multi-office medical practice for 3.5 years, then worked as a senior developer at Action Systems, during which time they sold one of my projects for $10,000 a client. I worked as lead developer and customer point-of-contact for a consulting company in charge of a three million dollar project for Cummins Engines. I was senior developer at The J. Peterman Company, in charge of a large development project in which I mentored junior developers. I managed all IT operations for Bardstown Trim-Masters, a manufacturing facility, including purchasing, development, hardware repair, networking, as well as mentoring another staff member. I have worked for the past 16 years for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. I have developed many projects over the years, and received an Employee Suggestion System (ESS) Award in 2009 for a concept I recommended and implemented that saves the Labor Cabinet $2990 a year. I served as Vice-President of a volunteer organization in which I handled all IT matters and some non-IT matters, including online presense, brand management, budget review and analysis, member retention and acquisition, and implementation of all hardware and software.
